Harry persuaded us to take him to the local park on Saturday, the first warm(ish) day in a while. As Mum was around I didn't have to watch too closely as he clambered around and instead the D700 got an airing!
These two shots were amongst my favourite from the day, the converging lead lines up the slide work well for me. The second shot is using the Awesome bw Lightroom plugin, I don't normally play around too much with shots but this effect and the gaze into the horizon is effective.

While in London yesterday I called into Nicholas Camera in Camden looking for my ultimate portrait lens - a mid zoom to cover the 70-200 or 80-200 range. Having heard rumours (and seen the appropriate prices!) that the Nikkor 70-200 f/2.8 VR has foibles when used on full frame I'd delved a bit further into the 80-200 f/2.8 model.
Discontinued almost a couple of years ago, the 80-200 is the predecessor of the current 70-200. They seem to be incredibly hard to find, either on auction sites or in second hand listings. The lens reputation is good as well, amongst others Ken Rockwell writes a glowing...

Nikon announced today that they are launching a new 35mm f/1.8 lens.
I'm always pleased to see a new quality lens launched, but I'm a little puzzled why we're seeing a DX version of this lens rather than more specific full frame lenses. There is a certain argument towards this; allowing for the DX crop factor (1.5x) the 35mm becomes 52.5mm, close to the 50mm holy grail on full frame. For the uninitiated, 50mm is the focal distance that most closely matches the human field of view. What you see is what you get is becoming more than just a computer term.
Is Nikon missing the point with this lens?...

Hot on the heels of Canon's recent profit announcement, Nikon has cut their full year profit forecast due to lower sales and the strength of the Yen against foreign currencies.
Net income will probably drop 68 percent to 24 billion yen ($267 million) in the 12 months ending March 31 from a year earlier, lower than the 47 billion yen estimate made on Oct. 30, Tokyo-based Nikon said today. Sales may fall 10 percent to 860 billion yen.
Nikon joins its larger rival Canon Inc. in forecasting worsening earnings because of falling digital camera sales amid the global recession. Tokyo-based Canon said...

Moving from a DX sensor Nikon SLR (D80, D200, D300 for example) to a full frame version? You've probably got a few DX lenses in your kit bag. These lenses are produced and optimised for the smaller size sensors and when you stick one on a full frame body the resolution is reduced.
By default, when you look through the viewfinder on a D700 with a DX lens attached you see a black outline showing the area that will be captured. This has been criticised in several reviews as not being as clear as with a D3, where the whole area not being covered by the lens is masked out. Well if you read the manual...
