My first intense interest in photography was too late. There I was, my head pushed out of the roof of a 1950s land rover, gazing at a baby giraffe. I had a Pentax compact camera in my hand, and a realisation of how ill-equipped I was in my head. At the end of six weeks in Tanzania I had some great images, but also a sense of what could have been.
On my return I purchased a Minolta Dynax 500Si SLR, and over a few years built up an understanding of the principles of photography, if not the talent to see an image immediately. Working in the electronics industry brought digital technology to my attention, and before long I had a digital compact (Panasonic DMC-LC5) and later my first digital SLR – the Nikon D100. The birth of my first son in September 2006 prompted me to upgrade the D100 to a D200, and recently I’ve taken the plunge to full frame with a Nikon D700.
Photography is many things to me – stress release, a technical fascination, a challenge – but most of all an enjoyment. I hope you enjoy reading my blog and looking at my images as much as I have enjoyed taking them.
